Amara is waiting for him, arms crossed and her duffel bag thrown over her shoulder, giving him a rather incredulous look.
"You look like a lumberjack." She observed, noting his wardrobe choice. "And I still can't believe you talked me into this."
When Doctor McCoy insisted they both needed leave after their disastrous shuttle mission "camping" had not been the first thing to pop into her mind. However, Kirk had suggested it, and she didn't really want to spend the time alone, so she reluctantly agreed.
Even so, she would so rather be lounging on a beach somewhere than "roughing it" in the woods.
((OOC: Yeah so it's been a while but I had the flu this week and got on a Trek kick after binge watching Discovery... I figured I'd dust off some old Trek just for kicks :-) ))
He stops beside her and glances down at the flannel, like 'Are we talking about the same shirt here? It's a classic.' "Hey," he protests, feigning offense. "This is my favorite shirt. When I'm not reaching for gold, gold, gold, or gold."
Then his smile resurfaces and he's off again, knowing she'll fall into step beside him. He hasn't been entirely truthful about their "camping" expedition but saving the details for after beam down seems like too good of a surprise not to spring on her. 'Rouging it' in this case means cabins. With amenities. Less than a quarter kilometer from waves big enough to surf in. He knows she loves the beach. What could be better than old growth and sand? It's the best of all worlds.
She cast him a slightly amused look at the feigned offense and rolled her eyes a little at his response. "Huh, so I guess it's true then. You can take a boy out of Iowa, but you can't take the "Iowa" out of the boy."
Slinging her own bag over her shoulder, she did indeed fall into step beside him. When questioned, she patted her bag and nodded in response. "I did. Though I'm not quite sure why I need it. As I recall, camping usually involves tents, bugs, and wandering through the woods trying to avoid poison ivy or other plants that will make you break out in hives, or worse. Not swimming."
She gave him a slightly suspicious look. She knew him well enough to expect the unexpected. She also knew that sometimes his surprises did not work out as well as he intended, and so she did not entirely trust whatever he had in mind.
"You seem entirely too happy about this "shore leave" business."
*Pops up out of nowhere*

"Did you remember to pack a swim suit?"
